Mission Statement
The Hollywood Celebrity Shoot's purpose through its organization of celebrities from all venues who publicly stand up in support, is to preserve the shooting and hunting traditions of America for our children.
"I just wanted to thank you for teaching me about gun safety during the Kid's Camp," said an eight-year-old boy as he tugged at Hollywood Celebrity Shoot Executive Producer John Laughlin's shirt sleeves during the 2002 event. 'I was at my friends house and because he knew that I was involved in shooting, he thought I might want to see his dad's guns. I told him that if his dad or another adult wasn't there too, it wasn't safe for for us to be around them. That's what I learned at the HCS kids camp."
Laughlin explains, " we don't know if the guns were loaded or empty. What we do know is that one or both of those young lives may been saved that day because of what we teach at the HCS kid's camp."
For three years, the Hollywood Celebrity Shoot has funded educational youth programs with nurturing environments that convey not only the importance of safety and respect in gun handling, but show them the fun and productive ways to enjoy shooting and hunting. Laughlin continues, "We need to embrace and guide our children with information, not fear.
As a non-profit, the Hollywood Celebrity Shoot strengthens our resolve to continue to bring awareness, knowledge and a foundation of firearms responsibility to children 7-14, both on and off the field. "We don't believe that making a child afraid of guns will prevent them from picking one up of curiosity. We do believe that information and hands-on participation have a greater impact on kids than the finger-pointing speeches: "guns are bad" or "don't touch or you'll get in trouble."
The Hollywood Celebrity Shoot conducts free weekend shooting clinics and educational seminars for children ages 7-14 to teach the safe and productive use of firearms. Every Sunday for eight weeks preceding our annual shoot, kids receive personal shooting instruction in addition to seminars on wildlife preservation and management from organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and California Waterfowl to learn about the responsibilities of every shooter and hunter to our environment.
