The Club Murder Vacation

Directed by  Burt Kennedy

Written by Bill  Dial

Synopsis:  The Simons are between cases and all A.J. wants to do is finish reading his book.  However, he’s plagued by a bored Rick, who will stop at  nothing to get his brother to play with him.  He tries to get him to go fishing, makes him margaritas, even brings girls to A.J.’s door.  In desperation, A.J. takes his mother up on her offer to join her in a large suite at a resort.

A.J. is  enjoying the peace and quiet when he happens to witness and photograph a  body being dumped in the river.  The local police are less than interested and A.J. starts driving his mother nuts with his insistence  that he witnessed a crime.  In desperation, she calls Rick to come  get A.J. off her back.

Rick arrives in  the role of older brother calming down his over-excited younger  sibling.  A.J. won’t be put off, and calls in  their friend,  Jerry the coroner, to examine the body that was found for foul play.

Sure enough, the guy was murdered and the Simons, along with Jerry, discover a secret  marijuana farm and bring those responsible to justice.

I  thought this one was a lot of fun, starting with Rick’s attempts to get A.J. to play with him.  It’s just adorable when Rick can’t have fun  without his little brother.  A.J.’s expressions of impatience are priceless, too.

I really wish  the character of Jerry Reiner had been around longer.  He had a great sense of humor and a hilarious chemistry with the Simons, and he would  have made a classic recurring character.  Regrettably, he was only around for three episodes - It's Only a Game, Psyched Out, and this  one.

However, his presence and the great interactions between the brothers, Cecilia, and her alarmed date makes this a really good episode!
