Synopsis: A  television news reporter, Brad Daniels, puts a contract out on his own  life for a story, but things go awry and he's unable to stop the  hit.

Town brings him  to the Simons, though Rick doesn't care for the guy at all. Both brothers think he's a bit on the not-so-bright side, but they agree to take the  case and stop the contract hit.

Brad had set up  a fake residence that was reported to the hit man, 'Mr. Lee'. However, after he went inside to put away groceries, the house blew up. The world believes Brad Daniel's is dead.

He's alive,  however, and supposed to lay low so no one knows the truth. Can he do  that? No, that would be smart. Instead, he makes a newsreel from his hiding space talking about his experience, and sends it to his station for  broadcast. AJ had a hunch this might happen, and was able to keep it from being aired publicly, though the news staff found out Brad was alive.

The Simons realize they'll have to speed things along before the news gets out. AJ goes to talk to a big loan shark, undercover as Alfred Chumset, mortician. He pretends to want to hire Mr. Lee to kill Rick.

He succeeds and  manages to set up an appointment with Mr. Lee in an office building. AJ then calls his brother and arranges for Town and Rick to be on the  appointed floor at the appointed time. Mr. Lee is too smart for that, though. He rigs it so he can talk to 'Mr. Chumset' in the elevator on the  way up. Rick and Town belatedly discover the stuck elevator and head for  it, but arrive too late.

A gal that they  found skulking around Brad Daniels turns out to be working for a man  claiming to run a billing service. In reality, unbeknownst to her, she is  working for a front for Mr. Lee. The information she gathers is used to assassinate the target. She's willing to help the police and gives Mr. Lee  only the information Rick, Town, and AJ want her to give.

The trick works  and Mr. Lee shows up at the Simons' office to kill Rick. After being duped by a mannequin dressed as Rick, the Simons and Town give chase and catch the assassin, ending the threat to both Rick's and Brad's lives.

Review

Overall, I must  say I found the plot silly and aggravating. I'm afraid I would have had  trouble not shooting Daniels myself. He wasn't brave, just completely ignorant. I knew he had to be alive after the explosion because of the brothers' reactions, but a little part of me was hoping he was gone. But  no. He was alive and still stupid enough to try to put his story on the  air, putting his life at great risk. I'd at least have handcuffed him to a  chair or something to keep him out of trouble.

This episode does give me an idea of how tough it is to be a cop going out with a reporter. Temple isn't much better than Daniels when it comes to common  sense reporting. Town keeps quiet from the beginning, even though it could cost him a lot of grief later. I admired his bravery until I saw that Temple was guilty of the same bad judgment when it came to what to put on  the air. There wasn't a choice; Town couldn't tell her. Too bad, really. I  expected more sense from Town's lady friend.

I'd also like  to nominate 'Alfred Chumset' as my least favorite undercover persona of either Simon. Mainly, I can't stand him because he makes AJ look sleazy, and not in a good way. Plus, that quiet, monotone voice AJ uses grates on  my nerves. Accurate to the undercover persona, don't get me wrong. I just can't stand it.

I  think the thing that disappointed me the most about this episode was that,  after all the times they rolled their eyes at Daniels' stupidity, they  went and did the very same thing he'd done. Are you telling me they couldn't have set up a hit on one of their fake personas? They'd have to  find a place to set up the hit, but I can't believe it'd be hard enough to warrant putting a contract out on Rick. It was dangerous and unnecessary, and that's not their style. Sigh.

This episode frustrated me from beginning to end. None of the interactions between  characters make it worth the annoyance, so I went with one lone  Camaro.
