What Goes Around Comes Around

Directed by  Dennis Donnelly

Written by David Brown

Synopsis:  A race car driver  Dwayne Bellwood, hires the Simons to discover who is sabotaging his engine.  A.J. goes undercover as his tire man.  Rick and A.J.  use the ‘Friday Night Jerk’ to get a female competing racer, Monica Powell, to tell them what she knows, which isn’t much.  Despite the  Simons doing an all night surveillance, the saboteur manages to strike again, almost killing A.J. who was asked to test the car.

The brothers then check into a name they’re not familiar with on the list of people  allowed in the garage.  Kincaid is in a wheelchair after being in an  accident that killed Dwayne’s brother.  He doesn’t fall for their cover story of being reporters, and tells them he’s the one who told Dwayne to hire investigators.

The Simons finally discover it is Kincaid doing the sabotage in revenge for the  accident that crippled him.  Before they can warn Dwayne, they are  caught and tied up in a mechanic’s pit.  With a whole lot of wiggling, they escape and get to Dwayne just in time.

Review:

Sorry, but this  episode struck me as just an excuse to play at a racetrack.  The  Simons do some of their sloppiest undercover and surveillance work.  A guy in a wheelchair/crutches gets past  their stakeout.  Rick starts out undercover, but doesn’t bother to  keep up pretenses.  They don’t catch on that Kincaid might recognize  them from the track, which means either (1) they never saw him around the track, which means (2) they’re remiss in not wondering how he knew A.J. if  they hadn’t seen him, or (3) they saw him, but didn’t bother with an  actual disguise.  If they were always this sloppy, it would’ve been a short series!

There are a few cute moments between brothers, but the  industrial sized plot holes make this one of my least favorite  episodes.  I will admit that those into racing probably like it better than I did.
